The Creative Habit: Cultivating creativity as a practice for everyday life

For years I have hosted a songwriter workshop, and I love it so much because we get to be together, have good conversations, and stretch ourselves creatively. For a long time, I have wanted to expand that invitation beyond songwriters, and this fall we will do just that! Our little AHN team is excited to offer a new workshop experience at Art House North this fall - The Creative Habit: Cultivating creativity as a practice for everyday life!

Working with songwriters and artists over the years, I have seen that a big part of the creative process is getting over all of the internal hurdles that keep us from being creative. The inner critic, imposter syndrome, the fear of trying something new, the fear of failure, and different variations on a belief that creative endeavors are a waste of time. I have come to believe that in the same way that we have a spiritual habit and a fitness habit, we should (or can) have a creative habit.

So, what is this? A big arts and crafts sesh? No, not exactly, but we will work with our hands, talk about becoming friends with time, feel how creativity can move us from Chronos time to Kairos time, and how being creative pushes back against pragmatic utilitarianism... and how desperately we need that.

Dinner is provided on Friday night, breakfast and lunch on Saturday (dinner on Sat is on your own, but there are a lot of great places within walking distance).

We will close our time with a storyteller concert by Sara Groves on Saturday evening (your registration includes your ticket to the concert).

The event runs from 1:00pm on September 18 and closes on Saturday night, September 19.

We will send out a PDF with recommendations for hotel and food at the end of JULY!
