Have you thought about writing out pieces of your spiritual journey but aren’t sure how to start? Or perhaps know you have a story to tell, but you need a little structure and motivation? If so, then this workshop might be a fruitful place for you. Exploring our spiritual stories is truly a sacred journey that can lead us into spaces of healing and transformation.
Writers of any level who desire to tell pieces of their stories in an artful way while exploring their faith history are welcome. Participants will receive practical knowledge and coaching in writing autobiographical creative nonfiction.
The workshop will provide the following:
· Readings of autobiographical creative nonfiction essays for learning and discussion
· Writing prompts to help unearth memories
· Instruction on the elements of creative nonfiction writing and effective writing style
· Small group and instructor feedback on participants’ work.
Judith Hougen is an award-winning creative writer who taught writing for thirty years at the University of Northwestern – St. Paul. Her publications include The Second Thing I remember (poetry) and Transformed Into Fire: Discovering your True Self as God’s Beloved (spiritual formation). She has led a number of writing workshops and retreats focusing on spiritual formation and the arts at Art House North.
The workshop will run for six weeks, on Tuesdays from 7:00-9:00PM (CST). The dates are: January 20 and 27, February 3, 10, 17 and 24.
Space is limited to 16 participants.
